Alright, I know we are always complaining that it is cold when it is 50 degrees, but this last week it really was COLD! It got down to about 12 degrees here in Tucson and created a ton of havoc for the city. The gas company ran out of gas and left many homes and families without heat for days. The water pipes at homes, schools and business froze and then burst. For the first time in history, both the Tucson school district and my district had to close school. We were without water and heat and it was a difficult experience. Since this had not happened in the past, the planning and implementation was not smooth. I ended up having to phone call all families and staff to let them know we wouldn't have school. What a long process. I was exhausted that night!!
We were lucky at our house and didn't have any issues - thanks to Dan's tireless efforts to keep the fire burning, which is our only heating source, and wrap pipes and place heaters to warm areas. Dan made sure everyone was taking care of as well. What a hero!!!
Here are some pictures of our fountain which froze completely solid. It was very pretty, but sure cold for us desert rats.
